Learning and Development

At Stokenchurch Primary School, we believe that through play and a balance of structured activities, children can practise skills and come to understand and make sense of the world around them. By creating this unique place where play is valued, each of our children have the opportunity to learn through exciting, challenging experiences linking directly to their interests and needs.

Learning through play

Play and Learning in EYFS

Learning new vocabulary is an essential part of a child’s early years. It plays a crucial role in their language development and helps them communicate effectively with others, express themselves in a variety of personal and social situations and and gives them the confidence to explore new experiences.

We have designed our curriculum to reflect the needs of the children in our school. We have used our knowledge and understanding of the children’s backgrounds and experiences to develop goals that will ensure the children leave Early Years as HAPPY, VALUED, CURIOUS, AMBITIOUS, TOLERANT, RESPECTFUL, CONFIDENT, CONSIDERATE, INDEPENDENT, RESILIENT, ENTHUSIASTIC, SUCCESSFUL learners.

Our curriculum has been developed using the Development Matters and Birth to Five guidance documents.
